Holland America Line Announces Massive Fleet Evolution Across Six Ships
Last Updated: June 26, 2026
Holland America Line has unveiled a $500 million fleet modernization program that will refresh all four Vista-class ships - Oosterdam, Westerdam, Noordam, and Zuiderdam - along with the two Signature-class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. Rather than replacing what guests already love, the project is designed to bring many of the best features from Holland America's newer Pinnacle-class ships to these fan favorites while preserving the intimate, mid-sized experience that has long defined the brand.
The first ship to receive the full Evolution treatment will be Oosterdam, with renovations beginning in fall 2027. The remaining five ships will be upgraded over the following years as part of the multi-year investment. Here's what you can expect from this massive revamp.
New Staterooms Designed for Today's Travelers
One of the biggest highlights of the project is the addition of entirely new accommodation categories.
For the first time in Holland America Line's history, guests will be able to book Solo Verandah Staterooms: private balcony cabins designed specifically for solo travelers. As more cruisers choose to sail independently, these cabins offer a premium option without paying the traditional single supplement associated with larger accommodations.
The renovations will also introduce Bridgeview Suites, spacious accommodations featuring wraparound balconies, panoramic windows, and separate living and sleeping areas. Guests looking for an even more luxurious experience will find new Pinnacle Suites, while Vista Suites, previously available only aboard Pinnacle-class ships, will expand to the renovated vessels as well.
Bringing Pinnacle-Class Favorites Fleetwide
Many of Holland America's most beloved venues debuted aboard its newest ships, and Evolution aims to make those experiences available across much more of the fleet.
Among the most anticipated additions is the Grand Dutch Café, a guest favorite currently found on Pinnacle-class ships. The café serves traditional Dutch treats, specialty coffees, light bites, and regional beverages in a relaxed atmosphere that celebrates the cruise line's Dutch heritage.
Guests can also expect additional dining enhancements, refreshed bars, updated public spaces, and redesigned interiors that reflect Holland America's current design aesthetic while maintaining the elegant atmosphere longtime cruisers appreciate.
Modern Upgrades Behind the Scenes
Not every improvement will be immediately visible.
Alongside refreshed guest spaces, Holland America is investing in technical upgrades that improve operational efficiency and sustainability. The company says the renovations will include smarter power management systems and enhancements designed to reduce overall energy consumption and lower the ships' operational carbon intensity over time.
These improvements continue Holland America's broader effort to modernize its fleet while maintaining the service, itineraries, and onboard atmosphere guests have come to expect.
A Significant Investment in the Future
With half of Holland America's fleet receiving major enhancements, Evolution represents the largest refurbishment initiative in the company's history.
Instead of building entirely new ships, Holland America is investing in vessels that have become favorites among repeat cruisers. By combining the charm and ideal size of its Vista- and Signature-class ships with many of the innovations introduced aboard the Pinnacle class, the cruise line hopes to create an even more consistent onboard experience across the fleet.
For guests considering a future Holland America cruise, the Evolution program means more cabin choices, expanded dining options, refreshed public spaces, and many of the newest onboard experiences—without sacrificing the intimate atmosphere that has made these ships so popular.
